Spring flooding: North Bay takes steps to preserve waste water plant

Warm temperatures are raising concerns about possible flooding in North Bay.

Mayor Al McDonald said ice from Lake Nipissing could gouge the shore line damaging docks and decks if water levels rise any more.

Another concern is overwhelming the city's wastewater system, which is on Nipissing.

"We don't want to scare people but we just want to keep our citizens informed and have them know there is a plan in place," he said.

McDonald said the city will make sandbags available, if the need arises.

"We're taking every precaution we can to protect the integrity of that wastewater plant and then also we have to make sure we do everything we can to protect the shoreline and the residents along those areas," McDonald said.

In Sudbury, the city is in a different kind of watershed and the melt has been steady over the past three weeks.

Conservation Sudbury reports water levels will probably rise, but aren't expected to pose significant problems.
