Salvation Army's Sudbury kettle campaign needs volunteers

Another annual fundraiser in Sudbury is struggling.

Yesterday we told you about the United Way fighting to raise what it needs.

Now a spokesman says the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle campaign is lacking volunteers and fewer dollars are being donated.

Captain Craig Summerfield said they're $38,000 behind the same time last year. He said there is a need for more volunteer bell-ringers to stand beside the kettles.

"People from the Salvation Army Church, [and] some employees as well, [are] going out ringing to fill those spots," he said.

"We are working as much as we can to get those filled, but it doesn't fit the need we have right now."

Summerfield said he's not sure why the campaign is behind.

He said the goal is $207,000 for the city, but they've raised only $90,000. The organization helps 900 families in total.

Last year's Salvation Army Kettle campaign raised $204,000 in Sudbury.
