Bookstore chain encourages children to read and supports a school library in Sudbury, Ont.

The national book store chain Indigois including a Sudbury elementary school in the Indigo Love of Reading Foundationand its annual Adopt-a-School fundraising program.

Every dollar donated from Sept.13 to Oct. 6, 2024 at the Chapters store on the Kingsway in Sudburyand online through the Love of Reading Foundation will go towardthe discounted purchase of books in English and French.

Lasalle offers the French immersion program to students from kindergarten to Grade 6, and says itslibrary is a popular gathering space in the new school which opened last fall.

"Our students love to read at school and at home. Inspiring a love of reading in our students enables them to develop strong literacy skills, the foundation for all learning," said Lasalle's principal, Kristen Pichette, in a news release.

"Reading opens the door to a world of adventure, discovery and knowledge. Diversity in books builds cultural understanding and fosters empathy. Reading is engaging, educational and entertaining."

Pichette says Lasalle Elementary School invites the entire community to make a donation in-store or online to the Love of Reading Foundation.
