Sudbury police are warning people to stay off of thinice after a man riding a snowmachine went through the ice intoWhitewater Lake in Azildaon Tuesday.

Greater Sudbuypolice said the man escaped unharmed after his plunge into the freezing water, but he is now facing a charge ofcareless driving.

"Due to a recent snowfall, local waterways may appear to be frozen," said a newsrelease from police. "However, there isnot enough ice to support any weight at this time."

On Monday, anInstagramuser posted a picture of a snowmobile submerged in water with the hashtag"#Sudbury", though it's not clear if the photo is in any way connected to the incident outlined by Sudbury police.

The Canadian Red Cross recommends15 cm of ice for walking and skatingand 25 cm for snowmobiles.
