Spring snow storm has northeastern Ontario griping as school buses, flights cancelled

How soon we forget what nature can deliver to northeastern Ontario in the spring.

People on social media are venting their frustrations about an April snowstorm that has alreadydelivered upward of 20 cm of snow to some areas, including Greater Sudbury.

But there is nothing new about the dramatic weather shifts in northern Ontario's spring season.

On Apr. 5, 2003, Sudbury got 19 cm of the white stuff, according to Environment Canada. Sudbury was blanketed in 9 cm of snow on Apr. 7, 2009.

And poor Hearst, Ont. just last year, wasdigging out in May after a blast of wintry weather.

School buses were cancelled Thursday morning for much of the region, and, thanks to some flight cancellations at the Sudbury airport, some wondered whether a scheduled visit from Prime Minister Justin Trudeauwould come off as planned.

This snow storm is expected to taper off Thursday night.
