Sudbury police arrest 2 people for assault, theft and forcing victim to sign over vehicle

Sudbury police arrested two people on Saturday in connection with a break-in, robbery and assault that happened in the Hanmer area on Friday.

Police say people involved in the incident were known to each other

Sudbury police have arrested two people in connection with a break-in, robbery and assault that happened in the suburban community of Hanmer on Friday.

In a news release, police said a person was assaulted with a baseball bat, and had a wallet, cellphone and keys taken. The victim was also forced tosign a bill of sale for avehicle.

A few hours later, police say they arrested a 31-year-old man and charged him with extortion, assault with a weapon, robbery, and several other offences.

The person also faces drug charges because police found baggies of what they believe to be cocaine in his vehicle.

Police also got a search warrant for a homein the community of Azilda, where theyfound the stolen items, including the bill of sale for the vehicle. Police said they also seized unregistered firearms from the home.

A48-year-old woman was arrested and now faces charges for assault, extortion, robbery and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police said the people involved in the incident were known to each other.
