First Nations students honour 7 who died in Thunder Bay

Students returning to Dennis Cromarty First Nations high school Friday got a lesson today in staying safe in the city.

Their annual memorial walk honours the seven First Nations students who have died since 2000 while in Thunder Bay to attend school.

The principal at DFC, Jonathan Kakegamic, said the walk is also a reminder to students that they are loved and valued and must choose pastimes that are safe and healthy.

"These are youth, they need to be reminded every day to make the right choices, to keep at their goals, [and] if you fall down ask for help," said Kakegamic.

An inquest into the death of the seven students is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2013.
