Recool truck driver brings down Thunder Bay Hydro lines

Thunder Bay Hydro says about 30 people on Murphy Avenue, Martin Avenue and PonderosaDrive were without power for much of the day Wednesday, after a truck brought down hydro lines in the area.

The driver had to remain in the truck while Thunder Bay Hydro shut down power to the lines.

People at the scene said the truck was backing out of a drivewaywhen it hooked the overhead phone lines, bringingthem down on top of the vehicle. The hydro lines and a hydro pole were also brought down.

Wires 'too low'

Areahomeowner Danny Peterson told CBC News this is isn't the first such incident.

"Last year we had the same problem," said Peterson.

"A neighbourhood truck driver kept hitting our cables. [We] never understood what was going on .... Then one day, finally, driving by, he pulled the cables down. The cables were too low to begin with."

Peterson said it's fortunate the driver knew enough to stay inside the vehicle after the Wednesdaymorning incident.

The driver of the Recool recycling truck was stuck inside her vehicle for about an hour, but eventually got outunharmed.
