Winds knock out power in rural areas near Thunder Bay

Strong winds on Saturday knocked trees onto power lines in several areas near Thunder Bay.

Hydro One says power will be restored to remaining customers by noon Sunday

Strong winds on Saturday blewtrees onto power lines and knocked out electricityin several areas near Thunder Bay, but power is expected to be fully restored by noon on Sunday.

Environment Canada called for winds gusting to 70 km/h on Saturday and by 7 p.m.Hydro One reported "numerous trouble calls being reported with a large number of trees down."

More than 500 customers were affected by 19 outages yesterday.

Hydro One said it called in extra crewsand by Sunday morning the company reported only 2 outages, affecting fewer than 20 customers in the Birch Beach neighbourhoodeast of Thunder Bay.
