A 10-year-old Toronto boy was struck by a bullet while he slept in his own home overnight Friday.

A homeonBlake Street nearBoultbeeAvenue in the city's east end was hit by a hail of gunfire overnight, and the child was shot in the shoulder.

Paramedics say the boy was taken to Sick Kids Hospital in serious, but not life-threatening,condition.

Sgt.Andy Kitchener says it appears someone fired into the home,a unit incommunity housing complex, from through or above the back fence.

It's too early to tell whether someone else inside the unit was targeted, he said. The boy lives with his mother and two older siblings.

"It's extremely concerning if they were targeted or not targeted," Kitchener said.

'This is not us'

Bullets went through the home's window, door and air conditioner, alarming residents of the community housing block.Neighbours said they heard10 loud pops. Some mistook the noises for fireworks and went back to bed, while others got up and watched the boy being wheeled away in a stretcher.

"Everybody in public housing wants to live in this neighbourhood because the people that live here, we all stick together as family," resident Aston Stewart, who raised his children in the complex, said."This is not Blake. This is not us."

This shooting comes less than 24 hours after two other shootings in the city, includinga brazen daytime shooting in the city'sSheppard Avenue West and Weston Road area.Another person is in life-threatening condition following a shooting in the Bloor Street West and Kipling Avenue Area.

Police Chief Mark Saunders visited the scene of the Blake Street shooting on Saturday but did not speak to media.
