Woman dead, man seriously injured in Brampton shooting

A woman is dead and a man is seriously injured after a shooting in a home in Brampton on Tuesday afternoon, Peel police say.

A woman is dead and a man is seriously injured after a shooting ata home in Brampton on Tuesday afternoon, Peel policesay.

Theywere both in their 20s and were believed to bein a relationship, according to Const. Kyle Villers, spokesperson for Peel Regional Police. The man lived at the home with his family, while the woman was visiting, hetold reporters.

"At this point, we believe this ... is an isolated incident," Villers said. "We believe that the two people involved in the incident are the only two people involved at this point in time."

Officers were called tothe home by a family member in the areaof Deerpark Crescent and Fairglen Avenue, near Williams Parkway and McLaughlin Road North,at about 2:28 p.m.

When police arrived, they foundthe woman and man inside, both suffering fromgunshot wounds.The womanwas pronounced dead at the scene.

Peel paramedics said the manwas taken to a local hospital.

Villers said he could not say who "did what" to whom and it's too early to speculate.

Kevin Bettencourt, a resident who lives down the street, said he didn't hear or see anything, but a neighbour alerted his father to the commotion on the street after police, firefighters and paramedics arrived.

"It definitely frightens you. You hear about crimein Brampton skyrocketing over the years, but it definitely hits home when it's three houses down from your house," he said.

The Peel policehomicide and missing persons bureauis expected to take overthe investigation.

Deerpark Crescent wasclosed to traffic as officers investigated. Police were expected to be at the scene for some time.
