Danzig Street shooting: Man, 21, guilty of 2nd-degree murder

A 21-year-old man who was the first to open fire during a deadly shootingat a Danzig Street block party in 2012 has been convicted of second-degree murder.

He is the second person to beconvicted in the shooting.

The convicted man was17-years-old at the time of the shooting and can't be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The jury began deliberationson Monday before reaching averdict today.

Two were killed and more than 20 were wounded when gunfireerupted at the July 16, 2012, party in aScarboroughneighbourhoodwhere more than 100 people had gathered.

Staff Insp. Greg McLeansaid the man was prevented from attendingthe party, due to perceived gang connections, before he began shooting.

Police say they arestill looking for one more person whom they believe is responsible for the death of 14-year-old Shyanne Charles, one of two innocent people killed that night.

The man is dueback in court on May 6.

McLean said it's unclear whether or not the Crown will arguefor the man to be sentenced as an adult.

Shootout killed innocent bystanders

The gunfirekilledCharles and 23-year-old JoshuaYasay.

In spring of 2014,NahomTsegazab, the first person convicted in the shooting,pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and six counts of aggravated assault.

He wassentenced to 14 years, although the sentence was reduced to 11 years and fivemonths due to time served.
