Drug-related impaired driving up this year, Toronto police say

Toronto police say the number of drug-related impaireddriving offences has jumped by more than three times compared to last year, but most of those charges are not marijuana-related.

According to police, 58 drivers have been charged with impaired driving connected to drugs so far this year, compared to just 19 at this same time last year.

Police told CBC News that prescription drugs, not marijuana, account for most of that total.

The number came up Wednesday at a meeting held to address questions about Ottawa's move to legalize marijuana, which is expected in the spring.
