Toronto police are looking at surveillance video in their investigation into Sunday's shooting at the Garden Restaurant, which left one man dead and sent two women to hospital.

Police tell CBC News they have detailed images from surveillance video captured inside and outside the restaurant, some of which they may release at a news conference on Tuesday.

Police are working on identifying everyone who appears in the video.

The shooting happened just after 4 a.m. Sunday at the popular restaurant, located at Chestnut and Dundas streets.

The victim has been identified as Tariq Mohammed, a 31-year-old man from Mississauga.

Two women in their 20s were also injured. One was shot in the chest, the other in the abdomen. Their injuries are not life-threatening.

Police say that a group of around sixpeople were sitting at a table when an altercation broke out involving a man and a woman at that table and a handful of men in the restaurant.

Things escalated and at least one of the men pulled out a firearm. Two suspects fled south on Chestnut after the shooting.

At the time of the shooting about 30 people were inside the restaurant, which is a popular spot for diners after bars close.

Police have released the following descriptions of two suspects:

  • The man police describe as "the shooter" is a black man with a dark complexion and a lanky build, around five-feet-ten-inches to five-feet-eleven-inches tall. He wore a black hoodie and a black toque. The suspect is believed to be 20 to 30 years old.
  • The second suspect is believed to be the same age. Police say he is black, has a dark complexion and a stocky build, shorter than the man who police believe fired the shots, and wears cornrows to his neck. He wore a dark hoodie with a logo or some type of writing on the front. He is described as having "bulging" eyes.
