As Metallicagears up for a night of rock at the Opera House, the food bank that's benefiting from the show is fielding calls from metal fans frantically looking for tickets.

Metallica, which just released its 10thstudio albumHardwired...ToSelf-Destruct, is donating the proceeds of its show at the 950-person venue to the Daily Bread Food Bank. The band is also asking its fans to bring non-perishable food items, which can be dropped off at the door.

BenitaAalto, a spokesperson for Daily Bread, told CBC Torontothatthe charity had no advance notice of the legendary band's plans but was thrilled when the news broke last week.

"This was a delightful surprise," she said.

Tickets, which were $25 for members of the band's fan club and $100 for the general public, sold out in minutes last week. Since then,Aalto has been fielding calls from people hoping to get their hands on some.

"Wehad one person calling us,saying if we had an inside track toMetallicatickets, 'I will give you $1,000 for two tickets,'"shesaid.

Sadly,Aalto couldn't help.

"It's wonderful that people are thinking that we are as connected toMetallicaas we are. But we are not. We are just the delighted recipients of their generosity."

Doors open for tonight's show at 6 p.m.
