Driver charged after 8-car pileup that killed 1 in Milton: police

A 35-year-old man has been charged in connection with an eight-vehicle collision in Milton, Ont., last month that killed one person, police say. The collision happened at the intersection of Derry Road and Ontario Street S.

A 35-year-old man has been charged in connection with an eight-vehicle collision in Milton, Ont., last month that killed one person, police say.

The collision happened around 5 p.m. on Sept. 20at the intersection of Derry Road and Ontario Street S., Halton police said in a news release on Sept. 22.

The driver of aGMC Sierra was heading westbound on Derry Road when the pickup truckcollided with several cars near the intersection, police said, before itcrossedthe median and overturned.

The Sierra then struck several eastbound vehicles, including a Toyota Corolla driven by a 55-year-old man,police said. He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

Following an investigation by the Halton police collision reconstruction unit,the driver of the Sierra has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, the service saidin a news release Tuesday.

The accused is scheduled to appear at theOntario Court of Justice in Milton at a later date, police said.
