Man, 29, killed in 'targeted' East York shooting ID'd as Kevin Reddick

One person is dead and anotheris injured after a shooting in East York that took place just hours after Toronto's police chief told reporters a recent spate of shootings has "gang connotations."

Police received reports of multiple gunshots at Wakunda Place and O'Connor Drive just after 2 p.m.

One person is dead and anotheris injured after a shooting in East York that took place just hours after Toronto's police chief told reporters a recent spate of shootings has "gang connotations."

The victim has been identified by police as 29-year-old Kevin Reddick.

Emergency crews were called toWakundaPlace and O'Connor Drive around2 p.m. Friday after reports of multiple gunshots heard.

Officersarrived to findone victim, andthen laterfound a second. Both were from Toronto, police say.

Insp. Jim Gotelltold reporters the victims were shot at one crime scene, fled and were found at another scene. In an update Friday evening, Det.-Sgt. Ted Liomanis, said the pair had been sitting in a parkette in the area having lunch when shots were fired.

Liomanisconfirmed the pair was targeted and that the shooting was connected to gang activity.

Police are now searching for two male suspects in dark clothing, who fled northbound on Victoria Park in a dark-coloured vehicle.

The injured victim is now at Sunnybrook Hospital in stable condition.

Homicide investigators have taken over the case andWakunda Place has been shut down for the investigation.

The shooting comes as Chief Mark Saunders announced five arrests in connection with three recent separate incidents.

Saunders also acknowledged innocent bystanders and people in communities with street gangs have been disproportionately affected by the recent violence.

Over the past week, police have responded to numerous shootings, including a violent Simcoe Day long weekend that left 17 people with gunshot injuries from 14 separate gun-related incidents. There have also been three shootings in one neighbourhood in suburban Scarborough since Tuesday.

According to police statistics, Toronto is on pace to set a new annual recordfor totalshooting incidents andvictims.

The gunfire follows a pair of overnight shootings that left two people with serious injuries in opposite ends of the city.
