Concrete pieces fall from Gardiner for third time in May

Concrete has fallen from the Gardiner Expressway for the third time this month.

Concrete has fallen from the Gardiner Expressway for the third time this month.

Some pieces of concrete fell onto the sidewalk on the northeast corner of Lower Simcoe Streetand Lake Shore Boulevard just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Toronto police are on the scene. There is no word of any road closure yet.

In a prior incident this month,a single piece of concretefell from the underside of the overpass onto Lake Shore Boulevard near Lower Jarvis Street. A separate incident days later sawanother piece fall from the undersideof the Gardiner onto Parkside Drive near Lake Shore Boulevard West.

The citys executive director of technical services, Peter Crockett, recently said that the Gardiner is "structurally sound,"but will require heavy repairs over the next decade.
