Accused Eaton Centre shooters new lawyer defended Rafferty

The man accused in the deadly shooting at the Eaton Centre will now be represented by the Toronto defence lawyer who defended the man convicted of killing Ontario schoolgirl Victoria (Tori) Stafford.

The man accused in a deadly shooting at the Eaton Centre has a new lawyer.

Christopher Husbands facestwo first-degree murder charges, five attempted murder charges and a charge of criminal negligence causing bodily harm in connection with the June 2 shooting at the Toronto shopping mall.

One mandied at the scene of the shootingin the food court in the north end of the mall, while another mansuccumbed to his injuries in hospitaldays later. Husbands turned himself into police on the Monday following the Saturday night shooting.

Husbands made a brief appearance in a Toronto court on Wednesday morning, during which it was announced that defence lawyer Dirk Derstine will now represent him.

Derstine previously represented Michael Rafferty, the man who wasconvicted of the kidnapping, sexual assault and first-degree murderofOntario schoolgirl Victoria (Tori) Stafford.

According toDerstine's website,he hasserved as counsel in more than 30 murder trials during his career.
