Teen charged in fatal Richmond Hill collision: police

A 17-year-old faces five charges following the Aug. 17 single vehicle collision. Police say a 16-year-old girl remains in life-threatening condition.

A 17-year-old boyhas been charged in connection with a collision in Richmond Hill that killed one teenand injured six others earlier this month, police say.

York Regional Police say they responded to a single motor vehicle collision in the area of Bayview Avenue and Bethesda Sideroad onthe morning of Aug. 17, according to a news release issued Wednesday. Officers found a black, two-door hatchback in a ditch, with seven teenagersinside,all aged 16 to 17.

All the occupants were injuredand two were rushed to a trauma centre, police said previously.

A 17-year-old boylater died in hospital and a 16-year-old girlremains in life-threatening condition, the release said.

The accused, who is from Richmond Hill, has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and four counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm, police say.

Investigators are asking any witnesses who may have seen the vehicle at the time of the collision, or may have video of the incident, to come forward.
