5 fun things to do in Windsor-Essex this weekend

We've got five things, as usual, for you to consider checking out in Windsor-Essex this weekend.

So much to do, but only a couple of days to do it. What are some of your options in Windsor-Essex this weekend?We've got five for you to consider.

Fiesta Latina

This event takes place for the first time. It's being held in downtown Windsor, with much of the action taking place in and around Ouellette Avenue, between Park Street and Riverside Drive.

Fiesta Latina is a celebration of music and dance, but it will also feature lots of socializing and food.

Starting Friday and lasting into Sunday, it's hoping to draw tourists from Michigan and southwestern Ontario and beyond.

Leamington Tomato Festival

It all begins underneath the town's landmarkgiant fibreglass tomato at noon on Friday, when a real tomato will be sliced and sandwiches will be served.

Over the weekend, there will be a parade, a fish fry, a beauty pageant, live music, a classic car show and more.

Open Air Cinema Night

This old-school event will see the 1993 film The Sandlot projected on a large screen at Windsor Stadium.

Admission is free and the movie will start playing at 9 p.m. on Friday. Some snacks will befor sale.

Those going to check it out are invited to bring chairs, blankets, as well as their family and friends.

Windsor ComiCon

You'll see artists, exhibits, sketch duels,people in costumes as well as many vendors if you go to ComiCon.

This event will alsosee a diverse group of personalities coming to Windsor for fans to see, including Giancarlo Esposito of Breaking Bad,Michael Cudlitzof The Walking Deadand GeorgeWendt from the sitcom Cheers.

Kevin Smith, the well-known writer, director and comic book fan, will also be at ComiCon, as will Paul Forest, a Toronto man who is a full-time Spock impersonator.

It's taking place on Saturday and Sunday at the Colosseum at Caesars Windsor.

Windsor Ribfest

This is the fourth time the event is being held in Windsor. It is already underway and will continue into Sunday.

Organizers say that some 50,000 people may drop by for a bite to eat over the four-day event.

In addition to the ribs, there will also be live entertainment, a beer garden and various vendors.
