NAIAS 2016: Public events at Detroit auto show kick off this weekend

Planning on heading to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit over the weekend?CBC News has some essentials for you to keep in mind before you go.

When

The show in Detroit will be open to the public between Jan.16-24 and runs from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. every day. One exception to those hours:Doors close at 7 p.m. on the last day.Tickets cost $13 US for adults, $7 US for seniors and $7 US for children between seven and 12. Kids younger than six can get in free with a parent or guardian.

How to get there

The show is at the Cobo Centre in downtown Detroit.If you're driving, you can take the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel. After getting out of the tunnel, turn left on Jefferson Avenue and the Cobo Centre is about a five minute drive from there.

From the Ambassador Bridge, take I-75 N to the JohnLodge Freeway, which comes up right at Cobo Centre.

Transit Windsor is also taking people across. For $24 Cdn the tunnel bus will pick you up in Windsor and take you back again. That fare also includes your entrance into the show.

Where to park

The auto show has three parking lots available: the Joe Louis Arena at 900 W. Jefferson Ave., the Cobo Roof Deck at 625 W. Congress St. and the Millennium Garage at 432 West Congress St.

What to see

Some of the big announcements coming from the press preview days ofthe show include the all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor pickup truck anda new Buick concept car called the Avista. Don't miss out on classicsports cars like the Dodge Viper and Aston Martin Vanquish.
