Windsorpolice make 24 arrests in downtown neighbourhood

Windsor police made 24 arrests and laid 48 charges during a two-day operation at apartment buildings at 300 block of Glengarry Avenue.

Windsor police made 24 arrests and laid 48 charges during a two-day operation at apartment buildings at 300Glengarry Avenue.

Members of the Problem-Oriented Policing Unit (POP) worked in partnership with the Windsor Essex Community Housing Corporation (WECHC) "to support community safety," on Aug. 20 and 21, according to Windsor police.

Jill Lawrence, superintendent of patrol services, said the initiative started in response to concernsfrom residents in the Glengarryneighbourhood and the Windsor Essex Community Housing Corporation.

Charges laid include the following:

  • Assault with a weapon (sixcounts).
  • Assault (twocounts).
  • Arson (twocounts).
  • Theft under $5,000 (eight counts).
  • Failure to comply with a court release order (fivecounts).
  • Failure to comply with conditions of probation (four counts).
