Essex County OPP introduces new K9 unit.

10-year veteran joins two-year-old Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix

The Essex County OPP is welcominga new K9 unit to its team,

10-year veteran Constable Milan Matovskiis joined by a two year-old K9 namedMaximus.

They replaceConstable Dan Harness and K9Valor,whorecently transferred to another OPP Detachment.

Maximus, a BelgianMalinois/German Shepherd mix, hastraining qualifications which include tracking for lost/missing and wanted persons andcriminal apprehension.

In a news release, Const. Matovski is described as having started his career with theBurlington OPP and transferring to Essex County in 2013.

The duo recently completed a 20-weekK9 General Service Course and plan to get Narcotic and Firearm Detection training in the near future.

"PC Matovski and Maximusare inseparable, for not only do they work together but go home with each other as well," says Essex County OPP Detachment Coordinator Glenn Miller.

"With an enhanced set of skills and the adaptability to respond to a myriad of calls for service, some of which are dangerous in nature, the position of a K9 member is very demanding yet rewarding."
