Flood-damaged debris put out at 2,000 Windsor homes

Windsor Disposal Service crews headed to more than 2,000 homes in Windsor and Tecumseh Friday picking up debris from last week's flooding.

A special garbage pickup began Friday and will likely continue Saturday and Tuesday for residents with flood-damaged items.

Most of the garbage are bulk items thatdon't compress well, meaning trucks are filling up after only a few houses, said Anne-Marie Albidone, the City of Windsor's manager of environmental services.

According to Albidone, 17 garbage trucks were working Friday as well as six dump trucks and backhoes for larger garbage.

In Tecumseh, the town reports 500,000 kilograms of materials collected between Oct. 3-7. Heavy equipment is expected to be out Saturday and Monday.

The town provided several updates on Twitter Friday afternoon.
