GM smokestack demolition 'flawlessly executed,' says Jones Group Ltd.

Jones Group Ltd. usedused hydraulic excavators todemolishthesmokestack at the former GM transmission plant on Tuesday around 3 p.m., the company said in a media release.

The company saidin the release issued Wednesday thatthe demolition was "flawlessly executed."

The release, signed by Terry Jones,the owner and president of the company,went on to call outcity officials for previously speaking to the media Tuesday about concerns with the successful demolition, as well as the three previous unsuccessful attempts to bring down the smokestack in recent weeks.

Explosives were not successful at taking down the smokestack on at least three attempts made in August.

Windsor's chief building inspector, John Revell, said Tuesday "it appears that they've used explosives" to take down the smokestack.

Jones reiterated in the news release Wednesday thathydraulic excavators, not explosives,were used.

Revell said the city was still investigating Wednesday afternoon. Hedidnot immediately respond to a request for comment about the comments in Jones' media release.

The Jones release also mentioned negative social media comments directed towards Jones Group Ltd.and said many were due to "people not understanding the investment in the community and the magnitude of completing projects of this size."
