It's not yet regional transit, but officials with the Town of LaSalle are meeting with their counterparts in Windsor to adda Transit Windsor bus route in LaSalle.

At its council meeting Tuesday, LaSalle town council agreed to look at costing a plan that would bring Transit Windsor buses into LaSalle and include a transfer in Windsor.

"We're taking a look at it as a service available for students going to St. Clair College, the University of Windsor and for mobile seniors," LaSalle Mayor Ken Antaya said. "Hopefully it's something where we're enhancing the service."

"The municipality is maturing," he said.

Regional transit has long been a sticky issue between Windsor and Essex County. Five years ago, Essex County council slammed the brakes on talk of bringing a regional system to the area.

Antaya said this proposal wouldstrictly be a partnership between Windsor and LaSalle. He said he doesn't believe residents have the will for regional transit yet.

"When we start talking about regionally, other municipalities need to get involved and I don't know if there's an appetite out there," he said.

Antaya said he's met with Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens to discuss the LaSalle connection to Transit Windsor and hopes it will be running by early 2017.
