Lower loonie could help lure U.S. visitors to Windsor

A falling Canadian dollar could help lure American visitors back to Windsor, says the local tourism board.

The loonie was worth 79 cents U.S. early Tuesday morning.

Gordon Orr the chief executive officer for Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island, thinks it will help tourism but isn't the only factor in getting more U.S. tourists to Windsor. Orr said the lower price of gas is also a travel motivator.

Orr says his agency will continue to focus its campaigns on the experiences the region has to offer.

He says the falling dollar will not be the focus of any campaign.

"We might mention the fact. As a bonus your dollar goes further but what we're going to do is ... talk about the story. We're going to talk about the authentic tourism experiences and offerings on this side of the border and give them a reason to come," Orr said.
