National champion Lancers greeted by joyous fans

The national champion University of Windsor Lancers women's basketball team returned home from Calgary on Tuesday to a throng of happy fans.

Thenational championUniversity of Windsor Lancers women's basketball team returned home from Calgaryon Tuesday, a dayafter winning their second consecutivenational title.

Dozens of fans greeted the Lancers team when they arrived on campus.

For fifth-year player Emily Abbott, it's the end of her varsity career.

"I have so much gratitude to how things worked out and I'm so blessed and so fortunate and I'm just so thankful for this city, this university, the people here are unreal, I'll always always remember this," she said.

The returning players will have a few weeks to rest and focus on final exams.

"We'll take a couple weeks off and I think the next meeting the girls will have to evaluate the season and evaluate the coaches and stuff like that," head coach Chantal Vallee said. "We'll give them a couple weeks they've got to focus on school."

The Lancers brought the Bronze Baby statue back to the St. Denis Centre after defeating British Columbia Monday night.
