The Bacon Man is back. Ernie Lamont is running for mayor of Windsor, Ont.

He made the announcement Thursday. Prior to the announcement, the food wholesaler, known for his bacon sales, paid $137.50 to officially change his name to Ernie the Bacon Man.

That's what he says will appear on the ballot.

He's in the process of changing the name on his driver's licence, health card and passport. He estimates the changes will cost him $500 in total.

"My slogan will be, 'Bringin' home the bacon,'" Lamont said. "On the current mayor's salary of $200,000, I'd take half of that $200,000 and put people to work at $25 an hour in a restaurant I plan to open up."

Lamont has run unsuccessfully for mayor and city councillor several times in the past.

Mayoral candidates can't officially register to run until January. The next election is still 17 months away.

The election will be held in October of next year.

Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis has not said if he's seeking re-election.
