Production back up at Windsor Assembly after employees refuse work amid COVID-19 concerns

About 166 workers at Fiat Chrysler's assembly plant in Windsor engaged in a one-day work stoppage, citing concerns of being exposed to coronavirus.

An employee at the plant was placed under self-quarantine because of "possible secondary contact" to COVID-19, the company said, adding employees on the line responded by engaging in a work stoppage which started "mid-afternoon" Thursday.

Production resumed at about 3 p.m. Friday, according to a second statement from FCA. The company added there are no confirmed cases of coronavirus at the plant.

"A ministry inspector attended the workplace and determined that the refusal did not meet the criteria of a work refusal," the Ministry of Labour said in a statement to CBC News. "No orders or requirements were issued and investigation is now complete."
