Windsor's Thompson Park got a lot greener this week with a team of workers and volunteers planting 200 new trees.

The mass planting is part of the Green Leaf Challenge, an initiative launched by Forests Ontario and the Ontario government in a push to encourage communities to plant three million trees in 2017 to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday.

Staff from Hiram Walker and Corby Spirit and Wine partnered with Forests Ontario to plant the trees.

"We can make a direct impact in the communities where we have a presence and where we have commitments," saidAntonio Sanchez, executive with Corby."There's a lot of history here. That's why we felt that his area will be very meaningful."

"The Green Leaf Challenge celebrates the fact that every tree matters and counts toward the kind of future we want for Ontario,"he said.
