Donald Trump on Muslims and other hair-raising quotes

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump took to Twitter to nameIndiana Gov. Mike Pencehis running mateon Friday.

The announcement, and the mannerin which he delivered it, was not a surprisefor a man who frequently uses the social platformtoaddress the public directly.

It was also on Twitter that the brash billionaire recently fired backat U.S. Supreme Court Justice RuthBaderGinsburg, whocalled him "a faker" in interviews.

'He killed terrorists. He did that so good.'

Last week at a rally in Raleigh, N.C., Trump praised former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein's tough stance on terrorism saying the world would be "100 per cent better" if dictators like Hussein and Libya's Moammar Gadhafi were still in power.

On Muslims coming to the U.S.

At a rally inDecember 2015 in Mount Pleasant, S.C.,Trump defended his plan for a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims" by comparing it with former president Franklin Roosevelt's decision to inter Japanese Americans during the Second World War.

He weighed in on the Miami nightclub attack.

After 49 people at a gay Miami nightclub were gunned down early on June 12 by a shooter who had reportedly claimed allegiance to ISIS, Trump took the opportunity to remind everyone he was right about terrorism.

He has a penchant for nicknames.

Trump has often referred to Hillary Clinton's likely vice-presidential pick as "Goofy Elizabeth Warren." He has repeatedly called the Massachusetts senator "Pocahontas" over a comment Warren made that she was told she had 1/32 Cherokee ancestry.

He feuded with Megyn Kelly.

The Fox News host got into a nasty "feud" with Trump after she brought up his use of terms like "fat pig" to describe women (including actress and former talk show host Rosie O'Donnell) in a debate last August.

He went on the offensive on Twitter.

The two supposedly buried the hatchet in a much-hyped followup interview, but Kelly's line of questioning was widely panned for being too soft.

War heroes are 'people who weren't captured.'

During a conservative forum in Iowa last July, Trump dismissed Senator John McCain's reputation as a war hero because he was captured in Vietnam. "I like people who weren't captured, OK?"

The war of words started afterthe Arizona senator saidTrump riled up the Republican Party's "crazies" with remarks about Mexican immigrants.

Trump avoided serving in the Vietnam War using four student deferments.

He called Mexican immigrants 'rapists.'

During his presidential campaign kickoff speech, Trump said Mexican immigrants are "bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists and some I assume are good people."

He wants to build a wall at Mexican border.

Trump has alsoproposed building a massive, impenetrable wall along the U.S.-Mexico border to keep out illegal migrants.

He says he'd 'get along very, very well' with Putin.

When it comes to global affairs, DonaldTrump has accused U.S. President Barack Obama of incompetence in dealing with President Vladimir Putin.When asked about Russian relations, Trump said the problem is that Putin doesn't respect Obama. If Trump were president, he said, "I think we would get along very, very well."

He waded in to vaccine controversy.

Ignoring the scientific consensus, Trump waded into the vaccination controversy in 2014, tweeting:

In his book Think Big: Make It Happen in Business and Life, Trump reminisced about former romantic partners.

"Oftentimes when I was sleeping with one of the top women in the world, I would say to myself, thinking about me as a boy from Queens, 'Can you believe what I am getting?"'
