The New Democratic Party of Prince Edward Island says it will fight any increase in the harmonized sales tax for Islanders.

Mike Redmond calls for Liberals, PCs, to reveal their stand on any potential increase

The New Democratic Party of Prince Edward Island says it will fight any increase in the harmonized sales tax for Islanders.

Party Leader Mike Redmond said after a two-year freeze imposed by the federal-provincial agreement on the HST, the provincial government can now increase the tax on Islanders

"People are already having a tough time making ends meet and an HST increase will only make life less affordable for Islanders," said Redmond.

"I will fight against an HST increase in P.E.I. Where do the Liberals and Conservatives stand?"

Redmond wants Progressive Conservative Leader Rob Lantz and Liberal Leader Wade MacLauchlan to tell Islanders where their parties stand on the HST issue and whether they will increase it.

Redmond said he demanded the Liberal government rule out an increase to the HST in November 2014 and received no answer.

For his part,Lantzsaid he would not raise the tax.

MacLauchlansaid he has noplans to adjust the HST.
