3D version of Harry Potter movie dumped

Warner Bros. Studio says the 3D conversion of the next Harry Potter movie is taking too long, so it won't be doing it.

Studio wants to make sure 2D version comes out on time

Warner Bros. Studio says it's abandoning a 3D version of the next Harry Potter film so it won't delay the release of the regular version.

The studio announced late Friday that it was unable to finish the 3D conversion of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 in time for its Nov. 19 release date.

"Despite everyone's best efforts, we were unable to convert the film in its entirety and meet the highest standards of quality," the studio said in a statement.

"We do not want to disappoint fans who have long anticipated the conclusion of this extraordinary journey."

As a result, the studiowill focus on providing both 2D and 3D versions of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, due out in July 2011.

The six previous Harry Potter movies have fetched an estimated $5.4 billion US at the box office worldwide.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was supposed to be the seventh and final book in the series. However, author JK Rowling revealedlast week she might have more books in the offing.

In an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show, the British writer said the characters were still in her head.

"I have to write for my own mental health," she said. "I need to write. I love it, I need to do it."
