Amy Winehouse granted divorce

One element of the tempestuous life of Grammy Award-winner Amy Winehouse has come to an end, with a British judge granting the troubled young singer and her husband a divorce.

One element of the tempestuous life of Grammy Award-winner Amy Winehouse has come to an end, with a British judge granting the troubled young singer and her estrangedhusband a divorce.

A judge granted Blake Fielder-Civil, 27, a divorce from the headline-grabbing 25-year-old soul singer on Thursday during a brief Family Court hearing in London that also included other estranged couples.

Neither party was present. The divorce becomes final after about six weeks.

The couple married in 2007, but Fielder-Civil was arrested for assault about six months later and jailed.

Theirrocky marriage was but one of the many personal problems that plagued Winehouse, a chart-topper for hits like Rehab and You Know That I'm No Good.

Though she shot to international fame in 2006 and, eventually, won multiple U.S. and British music awards with her critically acclaimed sophomore album Back to Black, Winehouse's musical achievements were soon overshadowed by her stormy relationship with Fielder-Civil, their run-ins with the law and her substance abuse battles.

In January, Fielder-Civil filed for divorce on the grounds of adultery on Winehouse's part. The singer, who has spent much of this year living on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, acknowledged the grounds and said she would not contest the divorce.

Winehouse hascancelled the majority of her performances since last fall, saying she is taking time off to recover her health.
