CanWest adds Haggis mob drama, more Fox shows this fall

A legal drama directed by filmmaker Spike Lee and a Paul Haggis-created series about a family involved in organized crime are among the new additions to the CanWest TV lineup this fall.

A legal drama directed by filmmaker Spike Lee and a Paul Haggis-created series about a family involved in organized crime are among the new additions to the CanWest TV lineup this fall.

CanWest executives unveiled the fall schedules for both its Global and CH channels in Toronto Wednesday.

Among the highlights are Shark, a legal drama staring James Woods and directed by Lee, and The Black Donnellys, created by Oscar-winning, Canadian-born filmmaker Haggis andhis writing partner Bobby Moresco. The one-hour drama revolves around four brothers involved with the mob in New York.

Several of CanWest's notable new additions were unveiled at U.S. network Fox's season announcement in May.

Fox shows 24, Prison Break, Bones and The War at Homeare set to return to Global, but CanWest has also slotted in the following new programs introduced by the youth-oriented U.S. network:

  • Vanished, a conspiracy-fuelled thriller about the disappearance of a senator's young wife.
  • Standoff, about a pair of romantically involved FBI crisis negotiators.
  • 'Til Death, a sitcom about two married couples one new, one established featuring Brad Garrett of Everybody Loves Raymond.
  • The Winner, a live action comedy from The Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane that features Rob Corddry of The Daily Show.

CanWest's new Canadian-made productions include anthology series 'Til Death Do Us Part, about unconventional relationships, university drama Class and Global Currents, a weekly documentary-current affairs series hosted by Global National anchor Kevin Newman.

Returning Canadian shows include teen soap Falcon Beach and futuristic sci-fi series ReGenesis. Also returning are hits such as Survivor, House,Gilmore Girls, The Simpsons and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
