Costello's '78 Toronto live album to be re-released

Elvis Costello plans to re-release a live recording of his 1978 show at the El Mocambo in Toronto as part of a series of live concert albums.

Elvis Costello plans to re-release a live recording of his 1978 show at the El Mocambo in Toronto as part of a series of live concert albums.

Costello and the Attractions played March 6, 1978, in the Toronto club and the recording was released only in Canada as a promotional album until 1993, when it appeared as a disc in the 2 Years box set.

Recorded originally for broadcast on CHUM-FM, a Toronto radio station, it also was heavily bootlegged.

The new release is set for Sept. 29 as part of the Costello Show series, which will feature live recordings from throughout his career.

Also to come is a live recording of a celebrated June 4, 1978, show at Hollywood High in Los Angeles.

The 14-song Toronto set includes Pump It Up, Watching the Detectives and (I Don't Want To Go To) Chelsea, all early Costello hits.

Costello's latest studio effort, Secret, Profane & Sugarcane, was released in June. He is also host of the TV series Spectacle, in which he talks about music with fellow artists.
