Documentary maker to make film of Sarkozy's 'soap opera' life

American filmmaker Marina Zenovich, who made her Cannes debut this year with the documentary Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired, will turn her sights next to French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

American filmmaker Marina Zenovich, who made her Cannes debut this year with the documentary Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired, will turn her sights next to French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Zenovich said she's interested both in Sarkozy's love life and the radical changes he is making in France.

"I'm very interested in how he's trying to change France how the French are very one way and he's trying to make them another way but of course you can't help seeing the soap opera of his love life," she said in an interview with AFP at the Deauville American Film Festival in France.

"You can't get away from the drama of his personal life," she added.

Los Angeles-based Zenovich admits she has not yet approached Sarkozy or his singer wife Carla Bruni about making a film.

She says she wants to follow the couple around to capture them in action, but will make the film without their consent if necessary.

A French author, Yasmina Reza, was allowed to shadow Sarkozy during his electoral campaign last year to write a book about him, L'Aube le Soir ou la Nuit (Dawn Evening or Night).

Zenovich said she had made a film Who is Bernard Tapie? about tycoon and former French minister Bernard Tapie, withoutTapie's co-operation.

Russian-born Sarkozy is bringing radical changes to France by challenging many of its sacred institutions, including life-long job security.

Since he was elected, Sarkozy divorced his wife and married Bruni, a former supermodel who continues her music career.
