Sherlock Holmes director could bring action, humour to updated Aladdin

After success with live action adaptations of Cinderella and The Jungle Book, Disney is planning a live-action movie of Aladdin and is reportedly in talks with Britain'sGuy Ritchie to direct.

The1992 animated Aladdin brought in $217 million US from the box office and won a best score Academy Award as well as the best song Oscar for A Whole New World. The Genie was voiced by a hyperkinetic Robin Williams.

Ritchie, who directed the two Sherlock Holmes movies starring Robert Downey Jr. for Warner Bros., first came to widespread attention with humorous crime caper Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Dan Lin, CEO of Lin Pictures, produced the action-packed Sherlock films and Variety reports he wants Ritchie to direct Aladdin. Ritchie is said to benegotiatingwith Disney.
