Junos give nod to electronic albums

In advance of next year's 40th anniversary milestone, Canada's Juno Awards are adding a 40th musical category to recognize electronic music.

In advance of next year's 40th anniversary milestone, Canada's Juno Awards are adding a 40th musical category to recognize electronic music.

Techno, house, electro and trance music will be among the genres considered for the inaugural presentation of the year's best electronic album, when the Juno Awards take place in 2011, organizers said Tuesday.

To be eligible, albums must be full-length recordings "composed with electronic equipment as the essential songwriting tools and defined by their electronic elements."

For next year's anniversary edition, the awards gala which has been held in a different Canadian city each year for about a decade will return to Toronto.

The 40th annual Juno Awards will be held at Toronto's Air Canada Centre on March 27, 2011.
