Canadian teen pop idol Justin Bieber has landed a 2010 Black Entertainment Television Awards nomination.

The 16-year-old singing sensation from Stratford, Ont., is up for best new artist of the past year in the awards established to celebrate the hottest stars in music and entertainment.

Canada will be well represented at the 10th annual BET Awards gala that will be helmed by Queen Latifah on June 27 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Newcomer Melanie Fiona from Toronto has chalked up four nominations. The 26-year-old R&B singer, who released her debut album, The Bridge, last June, is competing with Bieber for the best new artist award. She's also nominated for best female R&B artist and the BET Centric Award, and her video, It Kills Me, is shortlisted for the video of the year.

Another wildly successful Toronto newcomer, Drake, is up for best male hip-hop artist and has two nominations for best collaborations for Successful and Forever. The Canadian rapper will also perform at the awards gala.

Somalian-born, Toronto-raised hip-hop artist K'Naan is nominated for best international act.

American rapper Jay-Z leads the pack with five nominations. He'll compete with his wife, Beyonce, for video of the year, best collaboration and the viewers' choice award.
