Katy Perry too risqu for Sesame Street

Sesame Street has pulled an upcoming segment featuring chart-topper Katy Perry after receiving criticism that the pop singer's outfit is too risqu for children.

Producers of the long-running children's series released a statement Thursday announcing that they won't air the tapedPerry segment which has also been removed from the official Sesame Street Youtube channel citing "feedback we've received" after the taped footage debuted online.

In the segment earmarked for the show's upcoming41st season, the California Gurls singerchases Elmo, after thescarlet monster puppet spurns her request to play dress-up, and launches into an altered, cleaned-up version of her hit track Hot N Cold.

Perry, known for her saucy outfits, appears wearing a flowered veil and a yellow dress with a low-cut, bustier-style top (although atranslucent, flesh-toned mesh covers her chest).

The video, replicated elsewhere on YouTube, has drawn thousands of audience views. Commenters are divided, with some agreeing that Perry's outfit is not appropriate for a show for young children, while others defend the singer's clothing choice.

Earlier this summer, Perry told Entertainment Weekly that filming the segment was "the highlight of my entire career.

"I love that Hot N Cold could translate to Sesame Street," she told EW. "I just love that. I'm gonna have kids someday, and I love that some pop star out there is gonna change their lyrics to make my kids bounce in their diapers."

A representative for the singer reiterated on Thursday that she enjoyed her time visiting Sesame Street and also noted that the clip is still featured on Perry's own website.

Sesame Street has a long history of featuring guest appearances by celebrities. Others set for guest spots in the new season, which begins Sept. 27, include actors Colin Farrell and Jason Bateman, singer Usher and talk show host Oprah Winfrey, who will lend her voice for a parody of her show.
