Actor Mel Gibson's conviction in 2006 for drunk driving has been expunged from his record after he completed the terms of his sentence.

Mel Gibson's conviction in 2006 for drunk driving has been expunged from his record after he completed the terms of his sentence.

The actor's lawyer requested the move after Gibson completed his public service work and attended Alcoholics Anonymous for three years.

Gibson was arrested in California in2006 for driving 140 km/h with an open bottle of tequila in his hand. He also had a 0.12 per cent blood alcohol content, above the legal limit of 0.08 per cent.

He pleaded no contest to the charge of driving under the influence, but the case became notorious because of Gibson's comments to the arresting officer.

A leaked police report quoted him making anti-Semitic comments to the sheriff's deputy, who was Jewish.

Gibsonhas since repeatedly apologized for the remarks, saying his outburst did not reflect his true views.
