Michael Moore to unveil 2 film previews

Controversial documentary maker Michael Moore will be giving audiences a sneak preview of two projects on Friday night.

Controversial documentary maker Michael Moore will be giving audiences a sneak preview of two projects on Friday night.

The outspoken director, speaking as part of the Toronto International Film Festival's Mavericks program, will unveil a teaser from Sicko, his documentary looking at the failings of the American health-care system.

Sicko, scheduled for release in 2007, will be Moore's first film since 2004's Fahrenheit 9/11, which broke box-office records for a documentary. The controversial film's unflattering look at the U.S. administration of George W. Bush also won the coveted Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

He will also show segments from a work in progress entitled The Great '04 Slacker Uprising, a home-movie style video record of his efforts to encourage youth voting on the 2004 campaign trail.

Moore is quite familiar with Toronto and the festival. He made his breakthrough at the 1989 festival with his film Roger & Me, in which he searched for General Motors CEO Roger Smith to find answers to the economic decline of Flint, Mich.

And in his Academy Award-winning documentary on gun violence, Bowling for Columbine, Moore famously walked in and out of homes in Toronto, asking people why they didn't lock their doors.

Fans hoping to see Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat film Thursday night also got an early chance to quiz Moore after he took the stage to entertain the audience during technical difficulties with the film.
