No charges to be laid over Amy Winehouse video

British police will not lay charges against singer Amy Winehouse in connection with video footage that seemed to show her smoking crack cocaine, a police source said on Wednesday.

Winehouse was questioned for nine hours over the video, published by a tabloid newspaper in January.

"Following a CPS investigation into a 24-year-old woman ... no further action will be taken," a police spokesman said.

Winehouse's battles with drug addiction have overshadowed her singing success, which includes winning five Grammy Awards earlier this year.

She rocketed to fame with hits like Rehab and You Know I'm No Good from heralbum Back to Black.

Her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, 25, is due to stand trial in June charged with trying to pervert the course of justice and inflicting grievous bodily harm in connection with a bar brawl in 2006.

The grainy video, allegedly of Winehouse inhaling fumes from what looks to be a pipe, was filmed just hours before one of Fielder-Civil's court appearances.

On Wednesday, her spokesman welcomed news that there would be no charges.

"Amy is pleased to be able to move on and concentrate on music and particularly looks forward to seeing her fans again at eagerly awaited festival performances this summer," the spokesman said, quoted by Reuters news agency.

Winehouse will appear atthe V festivalin London this summer.
