J. Crew won't confirm Canadian foray

Several Canadian media outlets are reporting that J. Crew, the popular U.S. clothing retailer, is looking at entering the Canadian market.

The company would not confirm or deny the reports Friday.

"J. Crew cannot comment at this time," Heather McAuliffe, a spokeswoman for J. Crew in New York, told CBC News. She said the companywould send out an e-mail announcement if any moves north of the border occurred.

J. Crew Group Inc. reported last week that its net income in the second quarter climbed 2.7 per cent to $18.6 million US from $18.1 million in 2008. Revenuegrew6.3 per cent to $357.6 million.
