French may be one of Canada's official languages, but it's not a particularly popular mother tongue in Calgary. Still, there are pockets of Francophone households throughout the city, concentrated more in some areas than others.

As part of the 2016 Census,Calgarians are currently being surveyedabout which languages they speak, butwe thought we'd take a look at the latest, previous measurementof the city's French-speakingpopulation.

The data comes fromStatistics Canada's 2011 National Household Survey, which found fewer than oneper cent of Calgarians speak French as a primary language at home.
