CBCnews.ca is tracking the public appearances of the four main federal party leaders in the lead up to the next election, mapping their appearances since Jan. 1. Here's how we're doing it and how to use our map.

CBCnews.ca is tracking the public appearances of the four main federal party leaders in the lead up to the next election.

We're plotting their appearances since Jan. 1, 2015 on an interactive map that includes the new riding boundaries for the upcoming federal election.

Events include official appearances announced through press releases as well as appearances announced through the leaders' social media feeds. Clicking the markers on the map provides more information about a particular event.

The map is sortable by date, party, or, where possible, the main subject addressed at the leaders' events.

Subjects are assigned based on known speaking topics or points of discussion addressed at the events, but was not alwasy available or applicable for all events. The "other" category includes: human rights, education, science, religion, awards ceremonies, sporting events, international topics, women's issues, senior's issues, agriculture, and fisheries.

Here is the legend for the markers:

  • Blue - Conservative.
  • Orange - NDP.
  • Red - Liberal.
  • Green - Green Party.

Our map will be updated regularly until election day.
