Harper's northern tour grounded by weather

Bad weather has grounded Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Churchill, Man., on the second day ofhis five-day northern tour.

Harper was supposed to fly to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, on Tuesday morning, but winds, forecast at up to 100 kilometres an hour, and heavy drivingrain led tocancellation of that portion of the tour.

The prime ministerhad planned to announce in Cambridge Bay that the remote community of 1,500 people would be the location for a new High Arctic research station.

Instead, Harper made the announcement in Churchill on Tuesday at the hotel where he is staying.

The military Hercules cargo planebeing usedto fly Harper and reporters farther north is now scheduled to go to Resolute Bay, Nunavut, early Wednesday.
